History of Hollywood Casino

The property opened in 1933 as Charles Town Race Track, focused on thoroughbred horse racing. It expanded into slot machines in 1997 after WV legalized racetrack video lottery terminals. Penn Entertainment (formerly Penn National Gaming) acquired the property in 1997. After PASPA fell in May 2018, WV moved quickly and Hollywood Casino became the launch site for the state's first legal sportsbook on August 30, 2018.
